One of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers utilizes an Argonaut based pick to light solution to enable new off-line kitting and sequencing operations, and to improve on-line part picking performance.
As new models were being brought on-line, our customer found the added styles and required part complexity created problems. First, sometimes, the production line lacks the required floor space. Their assembly line was already overcrowded and the addition of more parts seemed impossible. Secondly, operators were already frustrated with too much attention focused on finding and selecting the appropriate parts. Adding more options further takes focus away from doing their primary job: building the car as best they can.
By moving the most complex and hi-value parts offline, and providing easy access to the remaining line side picks, operator attention is focused on assembling cars. A standard pick-to-light controller is utilized to integrate with existing vehicle scheduling systems to drive lights for on-line part picking, off-line part sequencing and off-line part kitting.
Our customers now easily expands build complexity with standard methods, selecting the best way to introduce parts and complexity based upon processes and station or operator capacity.
